Chris

apprentice-style training

Like many young men in their early twenties, Chris had not always met with success at school and in the workforce. Chris had tried college but dropped out and drifted through a few temporary jobs. At the urging of a family friend employed at ReCycle North, Chris applied to the Major Appliance Repair program. He really enjoyed the hands-on training and working with machines as well as dealing with customers. Chris graduated with certification in refrigeration and natural gas and is now employed in the maintenance department at Smuggler’s Notch. He is in charge of maintaining the appliances and heating systems in the 700-unit resort. With additional training provided by his employer, Chris now has his S1 Electrician’s license, his S1 Plumbing for Heating license, and his Propane Gas license. With each license has come in an increase in pay.

Chris says that the ReCycle North Training “changed his life”. He has a sense of independence, job security, and accomplishment. “I can work in any state at any hotel or resort with the certifications I have. And it’s not just the technical training. That Customer Service stuff really pays off." Chris has been named Smuggler’s employee of the month twice for his customer service skills and recently got a bonus from the real estate division at Smuggs after a couple bought a condo as a result of the conversation they had with Chris while he was fixing their gas fireplace. Way to go Chris!
