From Reach Up to ReCycle North

Heather was hired in September 2005 as our Administrative Assistant, but how she came to ReCycle North is the real story. Heather is a single mom who was participating in Reach Up, a "welfare to work" program that has 30-hour a week work requirement. She had a retail job, but when her hours were cut back during the summer of 2005, Heather volunteered to work in ReCycle North's office to meet her work requirement. She quickly proved that she was highly skilled, a good problem-solver, and a quick learner. She's also a trained LPN! Heather liked us, we liked her, and now she's a ReCycle North employee and off Reach Up. When we asked Heather if we could share her story, she let us know that there was a lot more to it. She had been addicted to opiates and is the first person to complete the State's methadone program and has been off methadone for over a year – and off opiates for 5 years! Turns out she's a tough survivor who gladly shares her story to inspire others. We’re glad Heather found us and feel very lucky to have her as part of our staff!
