Diane, Queen of the Book Nook

Diane - Book Nook Volunteer

Diane is queen of the book section at ReCycle North. Since September 2005, Diane has been volunteering 3 days each week (1-2 hours each day) to maintain a semblance of order in the Book Nook. “It’s never really done,” explains Diane. “I just try to keep up.” An avid reader, Diane confesses that she stopped shopping at the store for a while because the book section had become so disorganized. But she missed ReCycle North and decided to volunteer her time to help fix the problem. She uses the same system as a library: fiction is organized by author and non-fiction by topic. “Libraries have been doing this a lot longer than I have,” notes Diane. “Why reinvent the system?” When not volunteering at ReCycle North, Diane is employed at Third Sector Associates as a grant writing consultant to non-profits organizations. She also teaches grant writing part-time at Champlain College. Her fondest memory was the day she helped a farmer from Addison County find a Spanish/English dictionary to communicate with migrant workers on her farm. She also enjoys interacting with customers to suggest new authors and share people’s favorite titles. Thanks Diane for all your hard work!
